Non-work life reflection #2

It's been over 6 weeks since I started keeping a track of my non-work life and I'm finding it more interesting than anything else. It's been a good way of looking back on how much time I actually give to myself or keeping fit. As I mentioned in a previous blogpost, each night I wrote down 6 non-work activities that I did that day which were then categorised into Non-work work, Personal gain, Socialising, Leisure, Necessary, Relationship and Other. Between 26th August and 25th September, I compiled 184 activities (2 days I could only think of 5 activities) and the split is shown below:

Non-work2

The chart above depressingly revealed to me that I spend an awful lot of my non-work time, working! This category includes things like tidying and cleaning the house, shopping, cooking etc. and essentially all those activities that have just gotta get done! Overall I'm pretty happy with how I'm spending my time and although I'm going to continue to track what I'm getting up to, it's more for interest now and I'm going to only write down the 3 activities that I spent the most amount of time on. And any day that I don't do at least 3hrs of non-work, I will force myself to do an extra hour the next day. It's been quite refreshing to look at my life in this way and actually contextualise what I do outside of work and like age-old clich├ęs, we've got to enjoy life while we can. Tim Minchin was recently awarded an honorary doctorate and gave an address at the ceremony which consisted of 9 life lessons. Whilst it doesn't really have that much to do with my non-work life, it was a great speech and I agree with all his pointers so in the next blogpost I append them to immortalise them for our existential reflection.
