EGU 2014

The European Geophysical Union was held during the week of the 27th April 2014 and attended by 12,437 delegates from 106 countries over the 5 days. As a follow up to my first attendance the year before I decided to return to EGU in 2014 and helped to convene session SSS 6.1 entitled "Soil carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions: sources, mechanisms, processes and management practices effects". Along with Lutz Weihermueller and Raúl Zornoza I helped to coordinate the session with the EGU staff before selecting the oral and poster presentations that the session would host. When in Vienna I was then asked to chair the second half of our session in front of the 150+ people that attended our session.

While in Vienna I was also lucky enough to be given an oral presentation and poster to present about my own research. My oral presentation took on a different aspect of my PhD research than I presented the year before, focussing on soil fractionation results and their integration into modelling. The presentation slides are shown below. The poster I presented was more aligned to carbon outputs than inputs and showed results about the soil respiration partitioning experiment that I briefly discussed the year before during an oral presentation. You can find my poster presentation I gave at EGU 2014 here. If you wish to find out more about this research or cite the either presentation please refer to the abstracts: Land use change to Miscanthus: measured and modelled changes in soil carbon fractions and Partitioning greenhouse gas fluxes below a Miscanthus plantation.
