EGU 2013

The European Geophysical Union was held during the week of the 7th April 2013 and attended by 11,167 delegates from 95 countries over the 5 days. I was lucky enough to be given an oral presentation and poster to present about my work. The two sessions were entitled "Trace gases emissions from soils: Sources, mechanisms and process rates" and "Land use change and land management impacts on soil organic carbon: From process understanding to regional assessments", respectively. My oral presentation regarding CO2 emissions from below a Miscanthus plantation that had had roots and/or plant litter excluded from the soil is shown below. The poster presented regarding the longevity of soil carbon stocks below this same Miscanthus plantation can be found here. Longevity was estimated using soil carbon fractions prepared using the Zimmermann (2007) method of fractionation and taking advantage of the difference between the C4 plant and the C3 soil.
